About 9 pictures of Panic! At The Disco, which change every 5 minutes. Currently it is a great shot of Spencer and his drum kit. Windows 7 is good for some things, I guess. :)

The epic saga of us vs. the insurance company continues...

Last month, on the 18th, I was driving through an intersection with a four-way stop sign. A man in a 2011 Chevy Silverado ran the stop sign and nailed the front passenger side of my car. Needless to say, my car was totalled. The police came and took a report, information was exchanged, and both vehicles were towed away. I called my insurance company, gave my statement, and was told I would be contacted by a claims adjuster within 48 hours. When I finally was able to speak with her, after a short game of phone tag, it was Saturday, 10/22. Over the following two weeks, we continued to play a drawn out game of her putting me off and exchanging pointless emails and voice-mails asking for a return call. Then, after 3 1/2 weeks, we receive a packet in the mail which gives an estimated market value of our vehicle. In this packet, it states that, while our policy allows for 16,000 per year, we will be penalized for anything over 12,000 annual miles. It also shows that, to determine market value, they took 10 Craigslist ads and averaged them together. The vehicles were not inspected nor was mileage taken into consideration. On top of that, they attempted to deduct for petty things like dirty carpeting and headliner in our car. Plus, it stated that they would deduct our $500 collision deductible from the total they were offering. We sent back an email stating that Craigslist is unacceptable as a reliable source, due to fraudulent claims on that website. We also stated that our car was not detailed, due to it being in use without any desire to sell it, so we could not be penalized for it being dirty. And we were not going to pay them $500 for being the victims of an accident. Their return salvo was an email with 2 vehicles (one of which is located in Illinois - which is so close to California where we live) and an average dollar amount which is still over $1000 below low Blue Book on our car.
I think it's time to call a lawyer...

Writer's Block: American Censorship Day!

Today, Congress holds hearings on the first American Internet censorship system.
This bill can pass. If it does the Internet and free speech will never be the same. [Learn more here.]

Do you support this bill?

Of course I don't support these bills (there are 2). I use the internet for everything and most of the sites I visit would be shut down.

The thing is, even if Congress went completely insane and passed either one, the President would not waste any time before he vetoed it. Next year is reelection year and he would not want to piss off the public any more than they already are. Not to mention the fact that the wording of these bills make them so that they would never pass through the Supreme Court without the most offensive parts removed. They are written to protect copyrights, which is fine, but they propose to go about this in a way which infringes first amendment rights. Checks and balances will be the ultimate champion here.

Why do insurance companies feel the need to drag things out so long?

I was in a car accident Tuesday evening. Dude ran the stop sign and hit the front passenger side of my car. My car had to be towed. Police report was filed. Info exchanged. Insurance company contacted. Now, it's been 2 days and the adjuster from my insurance is dragging her ass and not getting back to me and dude's insurance has yet to contact me at all. I am without a car and it is midterm week. Thank goodness 3 of my 4 midterms are online and the fourth is my piano practical and my instructor is awesome.

My frustration with being essentially stranded in my house is really building. Hopefully it won't explode over the people who don't deserve it.

What do you love about autumn?

View 737 Answers

There are a lot of things I love about autumn.
*I love that the temperature starts to finally drop. Summer here in Central California seems to last much longer than necessary - we still have the a/c on during the day here. So when fall finally sets in it's a serious relief.
*I love that fall means Hockey Season. While I was raised watching football every Sunday, I really fell in love with hockey as a teenager. So when hockey season starts, I can gorge myself on hockey almost every night of the week. It's awesome :)
*Fall means Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving means food, more food, and football. I love the smell of the food, the preparation of the food, the consuming of the food. I love having now 3 NFL games on Thanksgiving, and this year we're not even stuck with the effing Cowboys!

SIGNAL BOOST: SAY YES TO GAY YA

This comes from an article by [info]rachelmanija entitled, Say Yes to Gay YA.
(click the link for the full article)

Our novel Stranger has five viewpoint characters; one, Yuki Nakamura, is
gay and has a boyfriend. Yuki's romance, like the heterosexual ones in
the novel, involves nothing more explicit than kissing.

An agent from a major agency, one which represents a bestselling YA novel in the same genre as ours, called us.

The agent offered to sign us on the condition that we make the gay
character straight, or else remove his viewpoint and all references to
his sexual orientation.

This isn't about that specific agent; we'd gotten other rewrite requests before this one. Previous agents had also offered to take a second look if we did rewrites… including cutting the viewpoint of Yuki, the gay character.

It's time to stand up and demand change. Spread the word everywhere if you are just as angry and outraged by this.

It is technically the first day of the semester. I feel like such a dork, logging in to my 3 online classes at midnight on the first day, but I really plan on staying on top of my class work this semester, not like last semester where I constantly felt like I was behind, and even wound up dropping a class. I've even got all of the books and software (installed!) on the first day. It might work out this fall. (Optimism is my newest friend, and I am working hard to maintain this friendship.)

Apparently, Cobra Starship will open for Justin Bieber on his South American tour.

Seriously. Who thought this would be a good idea? I thought they were trying to market Bieber as a wholesome, All-American teen. And now he's touring with Cobra? Or, more to the point, Gabe Saporta? Did I miss something?

Imagine being a parent of a tweeny-bopper with Bieber-fever. You want to check out the supporting bands and see what they are like. So, you look up the Cobra Starship albums, with song titles such as Good Girls Go Bad, Damn You Look Good And I'm Drunk, The Kids Are F'''ed Up, and Prostitution is the World's Oldest Profession (and I, Dear Madame, am a Professional). Or, even better, you google Cobra Starship, and discover the ridiculous insanity that is Gabe Saporta.

I don't know if this is a good move on the part of the Bieber people or not, but it certainly would draw an interesting crowd.

A couple of weeks ago, I realized that I am completely immune to all energy drinks. Which sucks, really, because I have a hard enough time waking up in the morning, and if caffeine won't do that for me, how will I make it to class when school starts?

So, after talking to a few people about it, I decided that I should try to back off on my caffeine intake and see what that would do. I have a few weeks until school starts, maybe I can get over the worst of the headaches and stuff before then.

Today is day 3 of my experiment. I drank one energy shot on Thursday and one glass of regular iced tea yesterday. I haven't had any caffeine yet today, and the headache is manageable. Unexpectedly, headaches were not the major issue. Thursday night, I slept for 10 hours, and last night for 12. This is just inconvenient. Hopefully, my body catches up soon.
